The Autoloader Multi-Bit Screwdriver, like all great tools, was born in a small garage. The idea was to develop a mechanism that delivered bits quickly, without having to touch them. It was obvious that people were tired of dumping bits out of the back end of their screwdriver to find the right bit for the job. After a year and a half of development, Franklin Tool and the Autoloader Screwdriver were born.

In mid 2001 Franklin applied for patents throughout the world and went into production of the Autoloader Multi-Bit Screwdriver in the fall of 2002. Sears Roebuck, USA was the first major retail customer. The Autoloader quickly established itself as a practical general-purpose hand tool and Sears requested a modified version of the Autoloader screwdriver under their well known, nationally recognized Craftsman label.

Other large retailers followed suit. Canadian Tire introduced it to the Canadian market with TV commercials in the fall of 2003, under their private label brand, Mastercraft. These were incredible achievement for the Autoloader given its humble, home garage beginnings.

For six years, Autoloader continued to be manufactured and distributed by Franklin Tool and sold over 1,000,000 units. In December of 2008, long-term Autoloader component manufacturer, Sicom Industries Ltd., bought the rights and patents and moved over key personnel to the Sicom manufacturing facility in Langley, B.C. On the horizon is an expanded line of Autoloader products, including the upcoming Rachet Driver, as well as Increased production and expansion into new markets.
